Record checker

Check a record

Choose the Signed record file from a parent's pack. This page checks, on your own computer, that every entry is exactly as the iPhone that signed it wrote it.

Choose the file

The file is read here and sent nowhere: this page's security policy forbids it from connecting to anything. You can disconnect from the internet before you choose the file.

What the check shows

  • No entry was changed. Each entry carries a fingerprint of its words, and changing a single letter changes the fingerprint.
  • Nothing was taken out of the middle. Each iPhone numbers its entries and links each one to the one before it.
  • Each entry was signed by the iPhone it names. Each iPhone signs with a key that never leaves it, and the file lists every iPhone's public key.
  • Attached content is what was written. Where a note or an expense's details are included, they match the fingerprint signed at the time.

What it cannot show

  • Whether what was written is true. The record shows what each parent wrote and when; it is not a finding of fact.
  • Whether entries were left off the end. The other parent's own copy shows that: every entry they received is in it.
  • Who holds each iPhone. Each parent can compare the identifier below with the one their app shows under Record, in Signed by.

Coparent Ally does not certify records and is not affiliated with any court. The steps this page follows are written into every pack, so anyone can repeat them with their own tools.
